The Harriet’s Voice Project is inspired by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Although she lived and wrote well more than a century ago, her words continue to provide inspiration for writing mothers. She was driven by her passion, even though writing consistently appeared at the end of a long list of interruptions. We can all relate to these words, which she penned after the birth of her
7th child:
“I have been called off at least a dozen times...to nurse the baby, then into the kitchen to make a chowder for dinner, and now I am at it again, for nothing but deadly determination enables me ever to write: it is rowing against wind and tide...the spirit moves now and I must obey.”
Harriet inspired me to write Harriet’s Voice: A Writing Mother's Journey, a workbook designed specifically to help writing mothers reflect on and enhance their writing life. The book is available through Amazon.com, Barnes & Nobles.com, and Off the Bookshelf.com.
